I’m K.T. Pike, and I published my first fantasy, Catching Qat, in October 2025. If you like TTRPGs—especially Dungeons & Dragons— and epic fantasy with a mix of elves, dwarfs, and dragons, then you’re my people. And if you like your fantasy sprinkled with a hint of mystery, species with unique cultural backgrounds and deep histories, and characters who don’t always like each other but would fight to the death for each other, then stick around…I may be your people, too.
As a child, I devoured Nancy Drew and Hardy Boys mysteries, and the Chronicles of Narnia. By middle school, it was V.C. Andrews’ Flowers in the Attic and Jean M. Auel’s The Clan of the Cave Bear. As an adult, I’m still reading fantasy (Dinniman, Bennet, Baldree, Kuang), romance (Adams, Hazelwood, Lauren), mystery, thriller, and horror (Scottoline, Ware, Jewell, and Reichs), and historical novels (Hannah, Rimmer) to name just a few.
I’m a Gen-Xer who grew up in central California with four siblings. I have two dogs with chronic illnesses and one husband (may he ever be the only one). I’ve driven a manual transmission through the Swiss Alps in a snowstorm and a dune buggy through Puerto Vallarta. I’ve been scuba diving in the Bahamas and helmet diving in San Tomas. I’ve lived on a boat and carried a gun for a living, and if bootcamp hadn’t fractured my pelvic bone, I don’t know where I’d have ended up. I live on coffee, recently learned I don’t need to live on stress, and if I could eat only one thing for the rest of my life, it would be tacos.
And I believe that D&D can change your life.
I went to school for Business Administration, but in 1989, it was Dungeons & Dragons that showed me how to be a manager. It taught me the value of diverse teams, collaboration over conflict, and stepping outside of my comfort zone while staying within a safety net. It led to a thirty-year career in retail management. But I went back to school in my late forties and studied genetics, the brain, early hominins, cultures, and linguistics. One college project reintroduced me to D&D, and once again, it changed my life. It’s where my writing began.
But it’s not where it will end. As a Library Branch Manager, I have the unique honor of helping others find what they love to do, read, and be. I get to be a library mom to an incredible group of humans who constantly challenge me to be my truest self. Therefore, I have branched out, and my writing has become as eclectic as my reading. My fantasy stories will remain in the Airdaeya universe on this site, but my non-fantasy writing will be under the pen name Kimberly Theo, where I’ll be writing about how life can hand you unexpected disasters, but it’s not the ordeal that shapes you; it’s how you handle the fallout.
