How Catching Qat fits more than 18 of the 52 Book Club’s 2026 Challenge Prompts

Are you a member of the 52 Book Club? In case you haven’t heard of it, the 52 Book Club challenges you to read 52 books a year, and the only restriction on the books you read is that they fit one of the 52 prompts.

One trick is to find a book that fits multiple prompts so you have some flexibility. Catching Qat covers at least 18 of the 52 prompts–more if you start the book on the 26th of the month.

Curious about the different prompts and how Catching Qat fits them?

Prompts

#3 Written without quotation marks: Akin’s dialogue is in italics because he speaks using sign language, and according to the 2026 Challenge Guide, “The book may be fully or only partially written without quotation marks.”

#4 Has a dust jacket – and it’s BEAUTIFUL!!! Just check it out!

Catching Qat in Hardcover

#10 Spans a decade or more – Qrodin has a flashback in Chapter 2 to the night he and Qat witnessed their ama’s murder.

#11 Requires suspension of disbelief – this book is fantasy with magic and mythical creatures.

#18 Provokes strong emotion – whether you laugh with Bell or cry…well…with Bell, you’ll have plenty of feels.

#23 Grumpy sunshine trope – Kasaandra is a grump, especially when she’s around Llani. And Bell is pure sunshine and chocolate.

#24 Uneven number of chaptersCatching Qat has 59 chapters!

#25 Includes a red herring – this book isn’t a mystery, but it does include a few red herrings.

#26 Title in a serif font – I used the IM Fell English Small Cap font for the title. It’s a revival of a 17th-century typeface that was used by the Oxford University Press. It has that rustic imperfection that perfectly reflects the fantasy landscape of Oram.

#30 Author related to another author – my second cousin is L.M. Terry, author of over a dozen dark romance novels, including Sugar and Skulls, Book 1 of a (so far) 10-book series. Another author I’m related to? Prince Harry! His mother, Princess Diana, is my twelfth cousin, which makes him my twelfth cousin, once removed. His autobiography, Spare, is a #1ย NEW YORK TIMESย BESTSELLER.

#31 Author related to author in prompt 30 – or you can use this spot for the same reason as #30.

#35 Character with a secret identity – Qrodin used the moniker ‘The Qrow’ when he was a young man growing up in Riversmeet.

#39 A book that cost you nothing – You can find Catching Qat on The Palace Project digital library app. Or perhaps you already received it for free from Amazon during one of the two free Kindle giveaways.

#42 Includes a handwritten interior font – Check out the family tree in Appendix A. I created a font using my own handwriting and used it on that tree.

#44 Literary Device: Personification – Add them to the comments when you find them!

#48 Related to the word โ€œNemesisโ€ – Qat’s is running from Captain Rogen.

#50 Set in a castle – Much of Cranwood is built within and with the remains of an ancient Merkama castle.

#51 Includes a mapCatching Qat has two maps!
